Meditation

I believe in the healing properties of meditation.

Meditation

Too often I forget what kind of a net positive daily meditation is. It’s nice after a hectic work day to just sit still and simply be for a while without a need to will a change on the outside world.

Or allowing the cares of the outside world to effect negative change on your inner stability.

I’ve felt myself in something of a general malaise lately. And I believe it’s at least partly a consequence of work stress, persistent insomnia, and finding my creative time and energy crowded out by frequent outside obligations. “A non-writing writer is a monster courting insanity” as Kafka so eloquently put it, and I’m finding that painfully accurate. It drives me mad.

So I know I just need to take the time to reset and re-align my priorities, and get back to what makes me feel fulfillment in life. Meditation helps in that reset in clearing my mind.

There are more forms of meditation than I’m properly familiar with. And everybody has their own personal preference for what best helps them in clearing mental clutter. Some people go through guided meditations. Some people meditate in silence. Others like to just listen to background music with headphones while they sit still and clear their mind for some set period.

I’m usually that type of person. I like to listen to nature sounds and sit up straight as I focus on my breathing for a few minutes every so often. And I keep a spare sheet of paper to write down the thoughts which I just can’t get out of my head, so I can immediately return back to the clearing of my mind. And the songs I prefer most of the time for these moments don’t have any words in them.

But there are other times where I feel myself slip out of the cares of this world with songs I wouldn’t expect to help me meditate within a moment. Songs which just give me some ethereal sense of the background spiritual music of existence. And you feel a sense of belonging to a greater whole.

I don’t mind the words then.

In the end, it’s very healing to just listen to some soothing music and to simply be. Sometimes you just need to take the time to breathe.

Let your worries melt away.

  1. Just a perfect way to find your form. Sitting for a bit everyday takes the frustration away. I am sometimes that “non-writing writer,” and if I don’t have my meditation to help de-clutter my mind, It would surely be a mess.

      • Yes definitely and dear you won’t believe its a coincidence or what I HV been thinking to mediate from past week or so but somehow thoughts keep coming in mind and I just couldn’t empty my mind… Good luck for your meditation and take a long deep breadth and let the week pass by calmly and successfully. Happy mediation… Have a good day and week ahead… Stay blessed always.. We share a great vibe I guess

  2. I don’t think there are enough people in this world that believe in the healing powers of meditation. Your expression of your daily routines and feelings of malaise spoke to me. I find myself frustrated a lot because the words will not come to me to write. Everything seems jumbled around at times. Your post reminded me that meditation is lacking in my own daily routine. I need to make time to “take time to breathe”.

    • I’m really happy that what I wrote spoke to you, I usually can find the energy to flow into stories after most days but during certain days I just feel like all my creative juices are drained and meditating can help me de-stress and re-energize and oftentimes it helps me reach back into a state of flow and writing. I’m happy that this post connected with you it’s always great to know people are enjoying pieces I write thank you so much for the kind comment and happy meditating!!

Thanks for checking out my blog too you’re right about exercise I’ve been trying to get back into my gym flow too but I’ve been slacking, and I feel drained just driving and working all week but a 70 hour work week holy hell Godspeed to you that’s insanity you’re a machine!! All the best to you and hope your dog gets better!!

      • That’s awesome to hear I definitely need more stability after my work day! I find I really get focused at work because it is so long, sometimes I feel like I’m just surviving the day… I think that with meditation it may be what I need to cut ties with all that day to day grind and get me to a better state for my home life! My dog is doing much better, thanks so much 😁

  3. Oscar this post resonates strongly with me in respect of the peace I experience in meditation. For me it is the absolute silence as the thoughts come crowding in with a pen and paper to hand to jot down key themes which require my attention. Thank you for your post, I enjoyed it. 4. Oscar, this is so true. Music is one of the strongest vessels for connecting with something bigger than us. I personally love Chopin Nocturne Op 9 No 1. There is something so haunting and beautiful about it. You can’t help but FEEL. Thanks for liking my recent blog post! It is nice to know someone is out there reading.

    • Chopin is by far my favorite classical composer I love piano music and that particular piece is definitely one of his more hauntingly beautiful works!! The one song I’ve been trying to play on the piano is the Revolutionary Etude I love that piece and I’ve always loved ballade no 1 in g minor opus 23 ever since I heard it in the Pianist. And that was a really beautiful post about having to take leaps of faith, especially timely for me considering I am soon going to be attending a writers conference and pitching to multiple agents, and that’s really a leap in the direction that I really want to take my life and not the day to day work drudgery I’ve let myself get sucked into. I want to travel the world someday Chichen Itza sounds amazing I’m usually petrified by the thought of sinkholes but Ik Kil Cenote sounds like a really beautiful spot. I’m not the best swimmer but I’m pretty sure I’d still take that jump if I ever got the chance haha one, two, three, that’s beautiful. You can’t be afraid to just go for things, seriously that was a really great post thank you for that. Sometimes action really does need to precede thought, you need to let loose to your instincts and just live, inspiring me to re-become who I am all the best to you 🙂

  5. I once met a woman over 100 years old. Of course, I had to ask “what’s the secret?”. She responded with “pray every day” and “be on the wavelength that you do not have to be always moving; always busy”. Sometimes being still is the most productive thing you can do for yourself.

    • So much truth and wisdom in that, that elderly woman certainly knew what she was talking about. I need to remind myself of this from time to time, work does its best to purge this perspective from me haha but it’s just the truth, it is tremendously productive and beneficial thank you so much for the kind comment!!

  6. Very insightful 🙂 doing yoga myself with some meditation I find it extremely difficult to find the “yellow triangle” never mind the “white ball”. Being a professional with a hectic schedule blah blah I find getting this right has worthwhile properties. 🙂

    • Thank you so much for your kind words, meditation is indeed a great tool in pursuing mental clarity and peaceful living! And very interesting post with regards to futuristic technology a lot to look forward to in the future besides societal collapse and economic depression I found the use of stem cells to reactivate dead brains to be particularly fascinating I’d read something about that during the week very curious as to what the proposed mechanisms are behind those studies happy blogging!!

  7. In my meditations I usually talked myself down to a lake and swam as a mermaid as far down as I thought I could go until I feared I WOULD FALL ASLEEP DOWN THERE. I haven’t really done much in the way of meditations since my mother passed away the day after my 49th birthday. In September I’ll be 51.

  8. Up until about 3 months ago I was one of the meditation non believers. A friend told me that of all the people I know, I need mediation. I’m always going 90 mph and I don’t stop to smell the roses. We meditated together for 7 days because that’s all she could get me to do. Three months later it is now part of my morning routine. I now take time for me. A lot of things I’ve cut out of my life because no purpose or just weren’t good for me.
I switch up I like to do the Kaballah Tree of Life and regular meditation. I truly believe me meditation is the vitamin that keeps me spiritually centered and given me back my sanity.

    • This is a beautiful comment it’s amazing what type of benefit meditation can have on your life, I have a tendency to go through life not living in the moment as well always busy not taking enough moments to just sit down and smell the roses like you said, you really do need to take time for yourself and it’s great to hear you’ve found your spiritual center in life!!

  9. This post resonated with me in a profound way. I use music to settle me after a long day on campus or to assist in my research. I find sitting for an extended amount of time quite vexing, leaving me irritated and frustrated (not feelings one should have during meditation practice.) I have come to recognize that for myself, meditation is so much more broad than just sitting in lotus pose for 10 or 15 minutes. I use every spare moment of my day to breathe and reflect; I also frequently do alternate-nostril breath while in traffic. Thank you for this great piece.

    • That’s very much so the truth meditation is more than just sitting in the lotus pose as you described for prolonged periods, it’s very much so about clearing your mind and reflecting without regretting and finding peace within yourself amongst many other benefits. I’m very happy this post resonated with you music has greatly helped me battle my demons as well, thank you so much for taking the time to comment and I wish you nothing but the best in your life’s journey!! =D
