I want to spend this post talking about how I wish I could forget how Mayweather beat Pacquiao on Saturday.
That’s a musical montage of clips from Eternal Sunshine. Beautiful video. Somewhat unrelated to my train of thought, but this video conveys my mood after the fight. So many memories of great Pacquiao fights ;(
For those who have not yet seen this movie, watch it. It’s a master piece of a film with its own unique heart-breaking ambiance and dream like feel. It’s not for the faint of heart. I was reminded of it as I drove home for an hour after watching the fight through the types of back roads that trigger introspection and daydreaming, and I thought about how I wanted to just forget that Pacquiao lost the biggest fight of his career. Shouldn’t affect me but it does as a fan. He’s still a Hall of Famer, but his legacy will always be he was the guy who everybody thought could beat Mayweather, but who could not. More hugging and defensive fighting than I would like, but that’s Mayweather he knows how to score points win rounds and box smart. He deserved the win.
My viewing experience of Pacquiao Mayweather was negative on a few levels, but it was nice watching it with a lot of people. I tend to enter an unexpected emotional maelstrom every time I watch a live Pacquiao fight, which overall clouds my judgment. I just love that guy too much. They’re both rich though so really nobody loses besides the boxing fans for not getting as much action as would have been nice. It all really doesn’t matter in a few days. People all ready don’t care anymore since the fight was so boring. And nobody wants to talk about it, almost like nobody has an opinion about it anymore. And why does nobody have an opinion about it anymore? Is it really just because everybody was so insulted by the fight getting so hyped up and then not living up to that hype at all and being so boring? Or is it something else entirely?
My mind was in conspiracy mode on Saturday night as Pacquiao was fighting. I thought the ref Kenny Bayless was letting Mayweather hug too much, and Bayless really was especially early on that dick. And I’ve all ready accepted he lost, after watching the fight again and watching him get jabbed in the face once or twice every ten seconds, perfectly countered here and there. Mayweather doesn’t knock people out he just pisses people off because nobody can hit him clean and he throws precise counters without brawling. It makes for a dull fight. But dammit why won’t anybody talk about the fight? Nobody wants to talk about it, oh my God.
Oh my God. It’s almost like the doctor from this movie who erases memories just went by everybody’s homes in the night with his creepy assistants (basically creepy alternate universe versions of The Hulk and Frodo) and took our every recollection of the fight. Nobody remembers there was a fight anymore. Maybe that guy could get to every house in one night, maybe. If Santa can do it that guy can do it.
Maybe Santa did. Maybe that guy’s Santa. Could it be oh my God.
I’m all ready forgetting what I’m really trying to say with this post. I’m all ready forgetting, what’s happening oh my goodness.
Oh my God maybe that guy just came by and erased my memory mid-type, set me back in my chair, and made me forget what the hell I was saying. Holy shit.
=O
I am not a sports fan, but it is easy to see how passionate you are about this…and even though I’m not a Sports fan… I “get it”. Your passion came through in your rant. Like

Very happy you enjoyed my rant haha few athletes make me feel so passionate but Pacquiao just does that to me the emotion cannot be contained thank you for the comment!

My son-in-law, a great boxing enthusiast, has always said Mayweather is the best ever. He said this time, that that he could beat a truly great fighter proves it. Loved the video

Mayweather is definitely an all time great, he might be the smartest boxer to ever live he understands the sport inside and out more than anybody, sucks to see him school my favorite boxer lmao but I can’t disagree with that assertion Mayweather’s very high up there. Happy you liked the video! Eternal Sunshine might be the most heart-wrenching movie I ever saw, thanks for the comment!!

I thought of you after the fight. I was very sad to see Pacquiao lost. As a Cubs fan, at the end of each season (since 1908) we say ‘we’ll get ’em next year’. Any chance of a rematch 🙂

I feel your pain as a Cubs fan, I’m an Eagles fan I think in a lot of ways that’s worse lmao I’m also a Derrick Rose fan there’s still hope there but my overall fandom is just an endless unhappy saga, but I’m so happy you thought of my blog post! I don’t know if there will be a re-match since Pacquiao apparently has a torn rotator cuff, so at this moment I’m sad to say it seems Pacquiao will never beat Mayweather ;(

Very sad 😥 Well I guess we just need to look to our next hope and say ‘Go Bulls’ 🏀.

It was so sunny here in PH before the fight. Right after “the loss”, I kid you not, it freakin rained. And the eldery people that I am with proclaimed, “See, even the heavens grieve with the results of the fight…”
Uhm yeahhh, I guess so? Hehe. Everyone at the house were sad. Well I was sad, too, but not as much as most parts of the country I guess. I just prayed that no “accident” will happen, which happened last time he fought and that broke me!!!
Anyway yeah, well, he did his best and still, he’s a champ for having that brave heart. 🙂

I get that same feel you’re talking about when it rains and I’m sad it’s like I just look at the sky all morose and hear the crack of thunder and *GASP* The Heavens Know! *SHIVERS IN REVERENT FEAR* That’s actually really cool how the heavens rained when Pacquiao was beaten wow haha my brother was back in the Philippines but he had to fly back during the fight, he timed it exactly wrong lmao but at least he was spared the instantaneous and prolonged heartache. You’re right it was better than the feeling after Pacquiao Marquez 4 that was truly painful for all involved parties except Marquez, glad no accident happened I prefer a dull fight to Pacquiao getting beaten up, he did his best you’re right and he’s still the champ in my heart! He’ll always be an inspiration for us all!! 🙂

A newly invented unoriginal phrase for those of us here in Hereford, England United Kingdom is “If You cannot beat the May Weather Join it!” at least you have no-one rubbing your nose in it as to eventual outcome and result, Let this old time musical number give you some cheer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1ZYhVpdXbQ Buddy Holly Raining in my Heart was the alternate option, though I decided you might go over the cliff with that one. ;-

I can respect the May Weather and those who join the Weather but I will never lovingly embrace it, it gives me allergies truth be told haha true I’m glad nobody’s rubbed my nose too much in the outcome of Floyd winning I’m lucky on that account, singing in the rain definitely is a pick me up tune haha thank you for that, truth I need not another sad song in thinking of the Pac-Man. Lucky you live in England I’m American I can only experience a whole city speaking with an awesome British accent in my dreams *sighs in dismay*

Aww man, that was a nice read! Last time I felt like this was when Argentina lost to Germany in the World Cup finals last year. I’m not really into boxing but I feel you, man!

True I wanted Messi to get that World Cup too haha I can’t see myself being big on boxing either anymore once Pacquiao retires, thanks so much for the comment!!

This is one of the most intense rants about a sports lost ever. Pacquiao is such an amazing human being that it was sad for many to see him loose. Better luck next time.

I apologize for the intensity I just love Pacquiao too much haha it’s true he’s an amazing human being I knew it wasn’t likely he’d win but it still made me really sad that he lost. If there’s a next time I’ll certainly still cheer him on but if this is how his career ends then that’s all right too he had a great run 🙂

I totally love this movie..this is my all time favorite movie and will remain so until I decide to erase it from my memory 🙂
Still remember when I was mesmerized after seeing it the very first time. And after all that time, whenever I watch it again, I fell more deeply in love with it. ❤

I love this movie too it’s so well made, such honest pain all throughout the film. It’s definitely on my top ten list until somebody erases it from my memory as well haha even after all this time every clip still seems so fresh to me, and there are bits within the movie I didn’t catch on a first viewing it’s a true master piece Charlie Kaufman is a genius. Thank you so much for the reblog!!

In high school, my fine arts appreciation teacher had us watch several movies. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was by far one of my favorites. I love the way you write: “I was reminded of it as I drove home for an hour after watching the fight through the types of back roads that trigger introspection and daydreaming, and I thought about how I wanted to just forget that Pacquiao lost the biggest fight of his career.” While I know next to nothing about boxing or this match, I relate way too well to that moment of contemplation being described.
In fact. The only reason I even know that Pac is a boxer is because a couple of years back, I worked closely with a Filipino family during a mission trip. The brothers explained that everyone in their family and community all gathered around, crammed together in one home, to watch the match. Pac was such a huge deal to them! I just loved the sense of community it encouraged. 😀
Now excuse me while I go rewatch Eternal Sunshine!

Eternal Sunshine is by far one of my favorite movies all time, there’s always something new I notice when I see clips from that film. So happy you love the way I write that means a lot to me to hear, I’ve had moments of contemplation like that driving on back roads so damn many times now and I know all too well that sense of community Pac-Man triggers it’s a good feeling going to be sorely missed. And awesome Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is definitely one of those movies that is worth multiple rewatches! Thanks so much for the comment!! 🙂

What a great movie that was ! Charlie Kauffman’s script was so smart just like his script of Being John Malkovich. Haw you watched his directorial debut Synedoche New York ? It blended funny and dark impeccably. Superb article, Oscar. The movie deserved a best picture nomination.

It really was a great movie!! Charlie Kaufman’s brilliant he needs to write more scripts, I’ve yet to see being John Malkovich and I have not seen his directorial debut, but Eternal Sunshine is a hauntingly beautiful movie it’s almost unsettling how it stays with you. The movie really did deserve a best picture nomination, so glad you enjoyed the article!!

Thank you for liking “Post A Quote Challenge: Day2.” I know what you mean about the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. I did not see the fight myself, but I remember that there was all this excitement about it prior to the match. A lot of people supposedly spent about $100 to watch it on pay-per-view or headed to sports bars to watch it. Even the people at my office were talking about it. Then after the fight, there was silence! I did not hear anything about much about it on the radio. I had to search online to find out who won.
I think some people were upset because the pay-per-view people had trouble broadcasting the fight. They did not get what they paid for.
I watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind too. It agree that it is a surreal and cool movie. 🙂

Everybody really did go silent hahah it was crazy, everybody was so disappointed in the fight I think everybody was just mad that there was so much build up and then they made so much money on one of the most boring hyped up fights in history. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was a thousand leagues better than that fight haha a true masterpiece, one of my favorite films of all time such heartache, few movies have made me feel how that one did thank you so much for the comment 🙂

You are welcome. Your comment about the movie being better than the fight made me laugh too. 🙂 Now the boxing world is wondering who can replace Pacquiao and Mayweather now that they are headed for retirement so that they can create another hyped up fight. 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
They’re wondering indeed haha tough to find two guys at that level nowadays in boxing, it’s a dying sport but at least we got some good years of entertainment out of them going to be a long time before another hyped up fight like that one, I’ll probably just keep finding my entertainment in movies and books 🙂

Yes, I think it will be a long time too. You are right. Boxing is not as popular as it once was. I like watching a good movie and reading a good book too, but I am very busy these days and don’t have much time for them. It is also getting harder to find good movies.

Oh I mean I don’t know haha it’s tough to tell it’s a relationship movie, and you find out the guy wants to erase a girl from his memory after she had erased him from hers, and you don’t really get a sense of what their relationship was like until you watch the movie through, and it’s a very, very well done movie I’d say it’s a masterpiece just be ready for an emotional rollercoaster if you have any anchored emotions to flawed relationships
